Energy Rating Scale for Prefabricated Apartment Buildings in Pécs
Many households are still using heating systems, making energy efficiency a highly relevant topic. In Pécs, an initiative launched under the LIFE HungAIRy project provides practical support to residential communities in reducing the energy consumption of their buildings.
A Local Energy Rating Scale Supports Better Decisions
With more than 26,000 apartments located in prefabricated panel buildings across the city, improving their energy efficiency is a key priority. Experts examined 50 different building types and developed a unique local energy rating scale that helps residents understand the renovation status and energy performance of their condominium buildings.
On the website lifepanel.pecs.hu, residents and interested visitors can easily search for their building and find out its energy rating. The scale also highlights additional measures that can improve energy efficiency, helping to reduce utility costs while contributing to better air quality. This information can be particularly valuable for prospective homebuyers.
One of the project's innovative features is the installation of QR codes at the entrances of residential buildings. By scanning the code, anyone can quickly access the building’s energy-related information. This solution can support residential communities in making renovation decisions and help property buyers make informed choices.
So far, the assessment has covered approximately 16,000 apartments, and the programme is continuing. Inclusion in the system requires registration, therefore condominium managers and residential communities still have the opportunity to join the initiative.
5 Tips to Reduce Energy Costs
Lower the temperature: Reducing indoor heating by just 1–2°C can result in energy savings of 6–10%.
Ventilate regularly: Short but intensive ventilation can save up to 20% of annual energy consumption.
Insulate windows: Self-adhesive sealing strips offer a quick and affordable way to reduce heat loss.
Make the most of natural daylight: During the day, only use artificial lighting where it is genuinely needed.
Monitor indoor humidity: A humidity level between 40% and 60% provides a more comfortable indoor climate and thermal sensation.
