The Herman Ottó Institute Nonprofit Ltd., as a wholly-owned entity of the Ministry of Agriculture, focuses on eco-label certification, environmental protection, nature conservation, and agricultural training. Its activities encompass a wide range of fields, including environment and nature conservation, it is involved in environmental remediation, air quality protection, nature conservation, sustainability, circular economy and noise protection.
The Institute’s primary mission is to provide a scientific basis for policy decisions and to support the Ministry of Agriculture’s tasks. Beyond legislative preparation, it contributes to the development of Hungary’s environmental and nature protection efforts, rural communities, and agriculture through innovative initiatives and solutions. The Institute employs a comprehensive, systemic approach to integrate various disciplined and foster collaboration.

Actions in the HungAIRy LIFE integrated project
The Institute plays a multifaceted role in the HungAIRy LIFE Integrated Project:
- As the coordinating beneficiary, it oversees and coordinates the technical and financial implementation of the project, prepares essential project management documents, and serves as the liaison with the European Commission’s agency CINEA and its designed monitoring body.
- As a partner, it executes several tasks independently or collaboratively.
Key responsibilities:
- Operating the Eco-manager Knowledge Centre, a knowledge-sharing hub that supports the Eco-manager network through communication, networking, production of training materials, and regular training sessions.
- Preparing technical background material for municipal awareness-raising plans, including the production of communication materials such as videos, leaflets and brochures.
- Conducting a study on the woody biomass supply chain and the development of a national strategy for its improvement.
- Supporting the review of air quality plans by members of the Eco-manager network to identifying and incorporate the most effective air quality improvement measures.
- Continuously monitoring of project results and impacts.
- Developing and implementing an Awareness Raising Plan
- Raising awareness and dissemination of project activities and results to diverse societal groups, including children, adults and decision-makers, through various communication channels.
- Managing the overall project.
