University of Miskolc
The Energy and Quality Institute of University of Miskolc has been researching the emissions of air pollutants from combustion plants for decades. The institute examines the processes of the atmosphere for each air pollutant to identify their sources.
Previous tendering works:
-
Theoretical basis of environmental friendly combustion of waste energy carriers (OTKA T 029199)
-
Determining the origin of carbon air pollutants (FKFP 0083/2001)
-
Determining the origin of the soot in the atmosphere based on structural analysis (OTKA F 035218).
-
Investigating the combustion process of natural gas and bio gas with particular attention air polluting gas components (OTKA 2040064)
Industrial commissions:
-
Reducing dust from Corundum melting furnaces
-
Continuous investigation of fine dust emission by power plants monitoring system
-
Emission sources and reducing opportunities of nitrogen oxides with high-temperature technologies
-
Investigating combustion technique of coke ovens in order to reduce air pollutants

Actions taken as part of the HungAIRy LIFE integrated project
We intend to develop a high-resolution PM monitoring network in Miskolc and Kaposvár (preparation and implementation processes are built upon each other).
The aim of the program is to implement measures to reduce PM10 pollution using high-resolution measurement of the air quality in Miskolc and Kaposvár.
The installation of the measuring system means the installation of 60 (Miskolc) and 20 (Kaposvár) pieces of small air quality measuring devices, and the distribution of the devices will cover the whole area of the two cities. The sensors and data collection system will consist of low energy-use and low-cost modules. The accuracy of the measured data will be less accurate than data from larger devices, but with proper calibration, these sensors can also provide sufficient data to map the local problems and to achieve the goals of the project.
The measuring devices will be installed on the areas of local authorities, companies and other recipients. The measured data will be transmitted by the devices to the central server database, where the validation, evaluation, storing and archiving of the data will happen.
To assess the level of contamination, it is necessary to take the meteorological parameters into consideration, therefore two meteorological stations will be also installed to observe the most important climatic factors.
We would like to inform the public about the level of PM10 contamination through a website, a mobile application and other public display screens and prove them related information, advices and warnings.
